Of Motorcycles…

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

A few months ago I took a motorcycle safety course and then after that I went and got my motorcycle license. I haven’t gotten a motorcycle yet as I’ve been busy with life things like moving in with my sweet heart and getting married.

The itch is firmly there now though. I want a motorcycle. I’m looking in the 500cc to 750cc range. I’m really liking the cruisers like a Kawasaki Vulcan or LTD. Ideally I’d love to have a bike I can do some work on myself and get to know really well.

I really need to get some gear and start test riding. This weekend I’ll get back on the hunt for a great helmet and go from there.

On a related note, here’s a great photo set of 1960s motorcycles from Britain.

Vroom! Vroom!

Motorcycle License

A few months ago I took the Motorcycle Safety Rider Course. The only thing left for me to do was go and get the class M1 added to my current drivers license. I tried on a Saturday but the California DMV has gone all wonky on the Saturday schedules.

Today I went down to take the written test and get my upgraded license. I didn’t realize I had to also re-take half of the normal driver test in addition to the full motorcycle test.

I ended up passing without missing one question on either test. Now it’s on to a helmet, jacket, pants, and then a motorcycle at some point.

Yippie!

Motorcycle Rider Course

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

This last weekend I took a motorcycle rider safety course from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and put on by Bay Area Motorcycle Training.

It. Was. Awesome.

I got on a motorcycle for the first time and learned the basic skills needed to ride safely on the road. I don’t yet have a motorcycle or the gear, but I plan on getting those in due time.

On a related note, my cousin David also took the rider course and got a sweet ride.  I can’t wait to see (and ride?) it in person.
