Copy Paste Character

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

On a Mac running OS X it’s pretty easy to type glyphs and diacritics. On Windows and Linux it’s rather complicated. When I’m not on a Mac running OS X I have found Copy Paste Character to be invaluable.

Warren Ellis: Why I Work For Myself

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Warren Ellis writes:

“The more creators who only took on housepainting as a part-time gig, the healthier this medium would be.”

Oh man, so true. This is why staring my own work up is very appealing.

Changes 1.0 ships

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Today Ian Baird of Skorpiostech has released an awesome comparison tool, Changes. Besides doing text diffs you can also do directory diffs and see what files are new, removed, or changed.

It features great integration with TextMate, BBEdit and Xcode. There is also a wiki with tips for SCM integration. The addition of a great command line utility chdiff is a boon to us developers too.

I loved it so much I bought a license before the beta was over.1 Now if only I had Leopard (required) at work to use it there. Some day.

Footnotes:
  1. I even contributed to the wiki where there was an offer of free licenses, but I turned that down, choosing instead to support an indie dev with my dollars.

Dinosaur Comics

I love reading Dinosaur Comics. The humor is top notch and yesterday is no exception. Nascent machine intelligences. I almost spewed my coffee on my screen.

Peanut Butter

Friday, January 11th, 2008

I am an unabashed fan of peanut butter. You can just ask my mom. Best food for a snack? Peanut butter. Best food to have stranded on a dessert island? Peanut butter. Best oil to use in frying foods? Peanut oil. See, even not in butter form the peanut is awesome! But I digress, for this is a post to point you to another titled The Best Peanut Butter in the World:

I love peanut butter. But more importantly for the statement you are about to read here, I know peanut butter. I know peanut butter the way Da Vinci knew fluid mechanics, the way Einstein knew physics, the way Grand Master Flash knows a turntable, the way Tom Brady knows how to perfectly balance throwing touchdowns and humping supermodels. I have eaten it. I have coddled it. I inhaled. What can I say? That’s how I spread.

Now I have to go and find this “Parkers Family Farms Peanut Butter” of which he speaks.
