Last night I had to say goodbye to Yoseph, the 16 year old cross-eyed cat that lived with me. He certainly used up all of his nine lives (with at least two to heart failure). The house feels a little empty today without him around, but I know he’s not going to be in pain, and that makes it feel a little better.

QuadCamera

I recently got the QuadCamera iPhone app. It’s fun to play around with and simulate a Lomo camera.

This one I took the other night, I realized right towards the end Joseph wasn’t really moving so I made a noise. It came out better than I could have expected.

So, Polly got sick and went through a lot to get better. She’s still growing all her fur out, but now she’s a changed cat. She’s friskier. She runs around all the time. She’s really social now. She’s a leaner version of herself before she got sick.

I’m really happy that the worry and the operation and the many, many trips to the vet were worth it.

On another note, here is another kitty that looks like a lot of fun (and is cute), Charley:

Polly: tubeless once more

Just a quick Polly update. I took her to the vet for the weekly re-check on how she is doing. She’s stabilized her weight and eating well so they took the tube out. Yippie! The amazing thing is they didn’t put any stitches or staples in as the incision is pretty small. They did bandage her neck but I can take that off on Monday.

Now she just needs to keep eating (which is probably easier without the feeding tube) and we’re all golden.

Just a quick Polly update (and I promise I’ll have more ALC daily journals up really soon).

Last Friday she started eating on her own again. When I got her home from a checkup at the vet she was a little frantic and sniffed at the dry food that was out. I popped open a can of wet food and gave her a little and she tore right into it.

So far she’s been eating the wet food I’ve put out. Hopefully she’ll get onto eating some dry food too. After she’s been eating on her own for a week we can have the feeding tube removed.

Sick kitty weekend

Well, I knew one of my cats, Polly, hadn’t been feeling well. She had lost a little weight but seemed to be bouncing back. Little did I know that she was really sick. On Saturday we noticed that she was yellow around her ears, nose, and mouth (icterus). I took her to the vet but it was so late in the day that they couldn’t get the blood work back until Tuesday. I waited until the next morning and took her to another vet where they did the blood tests and found out her liver was having problems because of fatty deposits. I then transfered her to a local pet emergency clinic for holiday weekend treatment.

They did an ultrasound and took a needle sample of her liver (still don’t have those results yet). On the basis of the ultrasound they started treating her for hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver syndrome) where her body was trying to metabolize fat from her weight loss and couldn’t keep up. They put a feeding tube in and got her started feeding that way and she’s rebounding.

I transfered her to the regular vet this morning (where I took the picture) and she’s going to be there getting more nootrishus food through the tube for the day. I can pick her up this evening and then feed her through the tube for a few days until she gets to eating on her own.
