Reading suggestions needed

Monday, November 29th, 2004

Hello dear readers. Recently I’ve run through my entire list of stuff to read
(except for Catch 22 which is in a box and I haven’t bothered to find
it yet). So, I’m turning to you for suggestions. Please post a comment with
a book, series, or author you like and that you think I should read.

As a frame of reference I am tending to blow through books with my commute
time on the BART these days. The last few I thought would last me a month or
more. The four of them lasted three and a half weeks tops, and that was with
only reading on the train. So you see I want and need quite a bit of reading
material to keep the ole brain crankin’. Thanks for your help.

Quote: Henry Louis Mencken

Thursday, November 18th, 2004

“The larger the mob, the harder the test. In small areas, before small
electorates, a first-rate man occasionally fights his way through, carrying
even the mob with him by force of his personality. But when the field is
nationwide, and the fight must be waged chiefly at second and third hand,
and the force of personality cannot so readily make itself felt, then all
the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre
— the man who can most easily adeptly disperse the notion that his mind
is a virtual vacuum.

“The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is
perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of
the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the
plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White
House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

— Henry Louis Mencken, Baltimore Evening Sun, 26 July 1920

Finally! Gosh! Geez!

Monday, November 15th, 2004

Yeah, so I finally got off my butt and worked out how I wanted to put
galleries of pictures up. I had an older method, but it was more complicated.
The newer method is better all around. So for now you can enjoy the first two
of many that I have to do.

As an update to my
earlier story
about my friend KP
running in the NYC Marathon I want to point you to href="http://justrunit.com/archives/2004/11/08/the_morning_of_the_nyc_marathon.php">
part 1 and href="http://justrunit.com/archives/2004/11/08/the_nyc_marathon.php">part 2
of his experiences running. Enjoy.

Congratulations KP!

This last Sunday my friend KP ran in
the NYC Marathon. He had been
training for a while and kept a journal
of what he was going through. He also raised $3,650.00 for the href="http://www.canceradvocacy.org/">National Coalition for Cancer
Survivorship (NCCS). His finishing time was 4:17:52.

Congratulations KP, you done good!

More Mission District Sightings

Thursday, November 4th, 2004

Just a quick one today. As I was walking down Mission Street from the

BART station
(you see, I like to mix up my routes a bit to make it more
interesting and keep people guessing) I was witness to one of the most bizarre
sights I’ve ever seen. Now, I’ve seen people peeing between cars, smoking
crack, and probably having sex of some sort on the street. This morning though
pretty much takes the cake. Walking towards me was a woman with no pants on
(they were over her shoulder) and just a t-shirt, shoes, and jacket on. She
was following a fellow and kept asking him to let her give him a blow job for
a dollar.

Sometimes I don’t like walking through the Mission District, but then there are
days like today that make it interesting.
