The progress so far

Thursday, October 28th, 2004

Today was a really good workout day for some reason. I’ve been doing the
exercise bike for a while now and so far I’m down to 260 lbs. (from starting
at 300+ before I changed my diet and about 294 when I started exercising).

I wasn’t feeling really good today though, tired, lethargic, whathaveyou, but
I went over to the gym anyway. It turns out I had my best day on the bike so
far. A stellar (for me at least) 16.7 MPH over the whole 30 minute ride. I
use a program that has peaks of resistance and I crank it up pretty high. I’m
actually pretty happy with that, but I know I won’t be doing that every day
for a while (I generally average about 15 MPH).

I was just feeling good and I ended up doing my first little bit on the
elliptical machine too. That felt weird, it is definitely going to take some
getting used to on the motion, but I’m going to stick with it.

GO ‘Stros!

Last night the Houston Astros advanced to
to the League Championship Series for the first time ever. It’s been hard
in the past to watch really good Astros teams get to the first round of the
the playoffs and then get knocked off. Now the Astros are really hot and
they have put together one great team. I can’t wait for the start of their
series against St. Louis.

This weekend was the Pixar cast and crew
screening and wrap party for The
Incredibles
. My roommate was kind enough to invite me and I’m really glad
he did.

Not only was the movie fantastic (and that’s all I’ll say for
now because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone) but the wrap party was great.
It was held at the old Alameda Air Base in one of the hangers (see the above
exterior shot). There was plenty of booze and food and I got to hang out
with my friends. My roommate and I both rented tuxedos with white dinner
jackets and I must say, we were pretty sharp looking.

It was a fun night. They had photographers doing prom-type pictures. At the
end of the night I got one of the best pics I took of my friend Jaime posing
with his picture in which he’s posing with some of the Incredibles characters.

Fans are strange

Monday, October 4th, 2004

So, this weekend the Houston Astros got the
Wild Card spot for the National League. Eliminated in their wake were the
San Francisco Giants. The Astros really
turned it on after the half-way point in the season and deserve everything
they’ve gotten.

The funny thing is I grew up in Houston and I am still an Astros fan. Today
I’ve had many people at work get upset about the Astros clinching the WC spot.
Now, the Giants aren’t a bad team, but I mean, really, they lost it on their
own. They could have beat the Astros in the whole series when they were out
here. They could have not lost to the Dodgers. Oh well, they get to go home
early now. I just love the people coming up to me and saying “FUCK THE
ASTROS!” Makes my day. Now I need to find my Astros cap to wear around
one day.
